M2M/ Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the fastest emerging technologies across the globe, providing enormous beneficial opportunities for society, industry, and consumers. It is being used to create smart infrastructure in various verticals such as Power, Automotive, Safety & Surveillance, Remote Health Management, Agriculture, Smart Homes, Industry 4.0, Smart Cities, etc. using connected devices. M2M is planned to be leveraged significantly towards Government of India’s initiative of Digital India and Make in India.
The NDCP 2018, Govt of India lists development of a framework for accelerated deployment of M2M services in the country, and market for IoT/ M2M connectivity services in sectors including Agriculture, Smart Cities, Intelligent Transport Networks, Multimodal Logistics, Smart Electricity Meter, Consumer Durables etc. incorporating international best practices as key goals.
Govt of India mandated through Telecom Engineering Centre has mandated oneM2M Rel 2 Standards as the National M2M standard in month of September 2020 based on recommendations by TSDSI for its adoption. DoT has recently issued guidelines for (i) UL/ UL VNO (M2M) licenses and (ii) registration of M2MSP Service Providers and WPAN/WLAN Connectivity Providers.
In order to further strengthen the M2M ecosystem in the country and facilitate wider proliferation and innovation in the sector, a webinar series on “IoT/M2M applications in key application verticals” is being organized by DoT and TSDSI.
It will disseminate awareness among key line ministries on how IoT/M2M based technology applications can achieve efficiencies in delivery of services to end users in a cost-effective manner and motivate them to adopt such technologies. Each webinar in this series will showcase global and domestic applications, including pilots/field trials/deployments in a focus vertical tentatively spanning transportation, Utilities, Agriculture, Health, Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities.
The inaugural webinar on transportation was scheduled on 7th April 2022 from 2:30 PM to 5:15 PM IST.
