TSDSI will host the 3GPP RAN Working Group meetings – RAN1, RAN2, RAN3, RAN4, and RAN5 – in Whitefield, Bengaluru, from August 25 to 29, 2025. This presents an excellent opportunity for TSDSI’s 3GPP members in India to participate in these meetings within their country, reducing costs and efforts associated with international travel. The event also reinforces India’s growing role in global telecommunications standardization, fostering domestic innovation and engagement with international experts.

About the RAN Working Groups and Meetings
The RAN working groups handle standardization efforts related to radio performance, physical layer, network interfaces and conformance testing, as detailed below:
- RAN1: Radio Layer 1 (Physical Layer)
- RAN2: Radio Layer 2 and Radio Layer 3 Radio Resource Control
- RAN3: UTRAN/E-UTRAN/NG-RAN architecture and related network interfaces
- RAN4: Radio Performance and Protocol Aspects
- RAN5: Mobile Terminal Conformance Testing
These groups cover a diverse array of topics, such as physical channels and modulation, multiplexing, procedures, physical layer related UE capabilities and parameters used in device tests. They also address topics like radio interface architecture and protocols (e.g. MAC, RLC, PDCP, SDAP), radio resource control protocol, radio resource management procedures, UTRAN/E-UTRAN/NG-RAN architecture, network interfaces protocols, UTRAN/E-UTRAN/NR radio frequency aspects, base station and device EMC specifications, link requirement specifications, RF conformance tests and RRM conformance tests.
The meetings will also deliberate on study items toward 6G standards as part of Release 20, while finalizing specifications for Release 19, which will update 5G Advanced specifications.
