Background
As the global operator community gears up to deploy the Phase1 of 5G technologies, it is important to look towards the futuristic technologies which includes next set of enablers that will drive the services and verticals. The use cases of commercial drones are growing very rapidly and include package delivery and logistics, search-and-rescue, monitoring of critical infrastructure, wildlife conservation, agriculture surveys, and surveillance. All these use cases could see rapid growth and more will emerge in coming years.
Along with the increased usage, India has also come up with regulations on various aspects of drones and their operation conditions.
During the deliberations inside Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI), it was realized that there are several service layer aspects to be studied further for improving the understanding of regional requirements and further the development of standards for drone communications.
A shared vision for further development of such technologies is necessary among the stakeholders to accelerate the delivery of services leveraged by drones across diverse verticals like logistics, agriculture, surveillance, public safety etc.
TSDSI held a workshop for exchange of ideas among various stakeholders in the ecosystem of drones.
Objective
The workshop covered topics from following areas:
- Emerging Drone Use-Cases and Trends in India
- Regulatory framework in India to deploy UAS
- Global Standard developments and technology around Drone Operations
- Drone Communication and Regulatory Needs
