World Telecom Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 – Awareness Workshop organised by TSDSI August 11, 2023
August 11 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) is held every four years and defines the next study period for ITU-T. It bringsĀ together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the globe to address the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving telecommunication landscape. WTSA serves as a critical platform for setting the agenda and shaping the future of international telecommunication standards.
DOT/TEC in India are the main coordinators at National level for recommending new resolutions / Value additions to the existing work in the SGs of ITU-T and other related forums.
WTSA-2024 is being hosted by the Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India in New Delhi, āIndia from 15 to 24 October 2024ā. Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) is main focal point for coordination and compilation of various suggestions and inputs from India and aligning with Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) for WTSA. TSDSI proposes to contribute actively in this endeavour by mobilising its members to give inputs on various areas and resolutions. A task force has been formed at TSDSI to compile these inputs and suggestions for submitting to TEC.
Earlier for WTSAā20 meeting which was held in Geneva during March 2022, TSDSI had formed a WTSA Task Force to steer discussions on the Resolutions. Contributions were made to TEC on key resolutions, including Bridging the Standardization Gap between developing and developed countries, and the role of Open source in the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector. A delegation of 12 members nominated from TSDSI attended and actively took part in the discussions of WTSA 2020, spanning all aspects of future networks including networks, security, services and applications.
Looking forward to WTSAā24, TSDSI organised an online WTSA Awareness workshop to create awareness and to promote increased participation and contributions to this important event. The workshop introduced the participants to TSDSI, ITU and WTSA and then went on to explain the significance of theĀ WTSA resolutions for researchers, startups and industry. Guidelines for writing good WTSA resolution proposals were given with examples.
