Webinar on “Standardization@3GPP: 3GPP Introduction & Overview of Current Status of 5G in 3GPP SA” (June 9, 2020: Webinar)

TSDSI launched the Partner Webinar Series on Standardization@3GPP in association with the India EU Cooperation on ICT-Related Standardization, Policy and Legislation (India EU PP). The series intended to share an overview of 3GPP and its activities, and bring insights from 3GPP experts on latest and futuristic technologies.
The first webinar in this series was held on 9 June 2020 on “Standardization@3GPP: Introduction to what 3GPP is, how it works and how it fits into the 5G ecosystem”.
Topic Abstract: The webinar gave a basic introduction to what 3GPP is, how it works and how it fits into the 5G eco system. It also treated the impacts of the current COVID-19 crisis on the 3GPP standards process. Finally, an overview of the ongoing work in the 3GPP Systems & Services area was given with a focus on 5G and vertical related issue.
- Georg Mayer, 3GPP SA Chairman
Speaker Bio: Georg Mayer is one of the 3 plenary chairs of 3GPP, the standards developing organization which defines 5G. He is responsible for the system and services aspects defined by 3GPP. Currently he actively drives the integration of the so-called vertical industries into 3GPP and the 5G eco-system in general. Georg works for Huawei; he is a published author and has over 20 years’ experience in mobile telecommunication and standardization.
- Ajay Kumar Mittal, Advisor – Networks, Systems & Technologies, TSDSI
Moderator Bio: Shri A. K. Mittal did his graduation in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 1976 from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He also holds a Diploma in Management. He has a career of over 44 years in the field of Telecommunications.
While he started his career in R&D at Indian Telephone Industries Ltd, later after joining Department of Telecom (DoT), Government of India he has worked in variety of domains like Satellite Communication, OFC, Microwave, Mobile Networks, Switching Systems, Network Management, Licensing, Regulation, Standards, Testing and Certification etc. He has headed the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), the technology arm of the Department of Telecommunications. He has represented the Government of India in various bilateral and multilateral international meetings.
Currently he is associated with TSDSI as Advisor with special focus on standardisation in wireless and wireline systems and handles standards related activities of TSDSI in 3GPP and ITU-R.
