Telecommunication Standards Development Society, India and IIT Delhi jointly hosted a workshop on “ML in Future Networks and Role of Standardization” on 29th  November, 2019 in IIT Delhi, with support from India EU Cooperation on ICT Related Standardisation, Policy and Legislation.

This workshop was intended to kick start India’s contribution to next set of standards.

Regulators, Operators, service providers, OEMs of telecom networks will be closely working together to use ML such that network operators handle everything from policy setting and network control to security, intelligently & for the OEMs to design more efficient products. Intelligent services which harness the full potential of 5G can be enabled through ML. Standards for introducing ML in future networks are needed to ensure interoperability of the solutions.

As the development of a 5G testbed is in progress, this workshop having expert views from test bed participants & researchers will also enable the way forward on plans to extend ML on the test bed in the different domains of IoT, Massive MIMO, energy harvesting, Mobile Edge Computing, security for standardization purpose.

The workshop broadly covered following topics:

Future of ML in communications including 5G

  • Industry partners adopting ML
  • Ongoing development work in Academia & Industry
  • Projections for scope of ML

Bridging the standardization gap – The India story

  • Identifying gaps in skillset & how to train formally with help from community: TSDSI, Industry, Academia.
  • Developing the Indian workforce skills & capability in Standardization

Cues on how to navigate the standards development process in order to reach their standardization objectives.

Proposal for a new technical activity in TSDSI is expected to be drafted based on deliberations at the workshop.

The workshop was held in IIT Delhi Campus, Hauz Khas, New Delhi, Delhi 110016

Date: 29 November 2019, 9:30 – 17:30
