National Workshop on enhancing Indian Participation in Telecom Global Standards Bodies, (7 July 2023)

Telecommunications Standards Development Society India (TSDSI), Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) are jointly organising a “National Workshop on enhancing Indian Participation in Telecom Global Standards Bodies”. The workshop is likely to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & IT, Government of India in the august presence of Hon’ble Minister of state for communication and Secretary (Telecom).

The goal of the workshop is to help participants understand the telecommunication standardization process and thereby increase participation & contributions from India in international standardization bodies. It will build awareness about the structure and role of various working groups constituted in India corresponding to international standardization organizations like ITU-T/ITU-R, 3GPP, IEEE etc. and TSDSI- India’s Telecom SDO. The workshop will also focus on significance of standardization for promoting business of industries/start-ups through Standard Essential Patents (SEP) mechanisms.

Program: The Standard Coordination Portal (SCP) developed by TEC/DoT [https://www.tec.gov.in/scp] will be launched in the inaugural session. Contributors of Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) from India in Global Standards will also be felicitated in this session.

This will be followed by talks by eminent experts from Government, academia and industry on following topics:

• Step by Step process of Standards Making
• How to convert a patent into an SEP
• How Academic Institutions can help build a Standards Community
• Concluding Panel Discussion – The way forward
