SUMMARY:NSGM-TSDSI Workshop on "Leveraging 5G and Cloud for Smart Grids - India Context" (20 August\, 2019: New Delhi)
DESCRIPTION: “Leveraging 5G and Cloud for Smart Grids – India Context” \nWorkshop organised by \nTelecommunications Standards Development Society\, India (TSDSI) and National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) \n20 August 2019\, India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi \nA robust and reliable telecommunication system is an integral part of Power Utility applications\, ranging from AMR/AMI\, SCADA/DMS/EMS\, WAMS to Smart Grids. Traditionally\, utilities invested in “private” communication systems\, to ensure reliability and more importantly\, security. Applications like AMR/AMI have been using public telecommunication infrastructure. The rapid advances in mobile technologies has spurred the development of AMR/AMI and Smart Grids. While 2G-3G is widely in use\, NB-IoT technology is also being explored. 5G\, with its emphasis on ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (uRLLC) and mMTC (massive Machine Type Communication)\, is slated to further accelerate these developments. \nData Centres that typically host utility applications\, is another segment that is undergoing transformation – due to Cloud based hosting services. Cloud based infrastructure is scalable\, reliable and secure and being virtual\, insulates the user from investing upfront in captive data centres. \nNational Smart Grid Mission (NSGM)\, spearheading the smart grid implementation in India has joined Telecommunications Standards Development Society\, India (TSDSI)\, which is leading the development of 5G standards\, to explore state of the art technological interventions for smart grid deployment leveraging 5G technologies\, cloud interoperability and portability and M2M/IoT etc. \n  \nA workshop is being organised by NSGM in collaboration with TSDSI for deliberating on evolving opportunities to leverage emerging technologies in 5G and Cloud\, for smart grids.  Objective of the workshop is to discuss Applications of 5G technologies in Smart Grids\, including w.r.t. India specific requirements\, and adoption of cloud based technologies including migration\, portability and interoperability aspects. \nThe workshop will be in the form of context setting and experience sharing by representative utilities on the topics\, expert talk/s from TSDSI experts and a panel discussion to identify actionable items for taking forward. \nThe workshop will have expert representatives from user segment (DISCOMS and Utilities)\, Policy makers\, Telecommunication service providers\, telecom and cloud technology experts\, R&D and Academia. \n  \nParticipation: Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. Please contact atul.bali.nsgm@gov.in/bindoo@tsdsi.in  to request for invitation. \n  \nVenue: Tamarind Hall\, India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi \n  \nSchedule: 20th August 2019\, 0930 to 1700 IST \n  \nWorkshop Contact: Mr Atul Bali\, NSGM\, atul.bali.nsgm@gov.in; Ms Bindoo Srivastava\, TSDSI\, bindoo@tsdsi.in \n  \n  \n  \nProgram Agenda: \n\n\n\nConference on 5G and Cloud Interoperability for Smart Grids\n\n\nSession\nStart time\nEnd time\nDuration\nSubject\nSpeaker\n\n\nRegistration\n9:30\n10:00\n0:30\nRegistration\n\n\nInaugural\n10:00\n10:05\n0:05\nWelcome\nAtul Bali \nSr GM\, NSGM-PMU\n\n\n10:05\n10:15\n0:10\nOpening Remarks\nMs Pamela Kumar\, \nDirector General\, TSDSI\n\n\n10:15\n10:30\n0:15\nContext Setting – NSGM\nMr Arun Kumar Mishra \nDirector\, NSGM-PMU\n\n\n10:30\n10:50\n0:20\nOpportunities for 5G and Cloud wrt Smart Grids\nMr Satish Jamadagni\, Vice Chairman\, TSDSI (VP Reliance JIO) \n \n\n\n10:50\n11:20\n00:30\nOverview of 5G technology landscape\nMr Jishnu Aravindakshan\, Vice Chair-SG Networks\, TSDSI\n\n\nTEA BREAK\n11:20\n11:50\n0:30\nBREAK\n\n\n5G for Smart Grids\n11:50\n12:20\n0:30\nSmart Metering Communications requirements & experience so far\nAtul Bali\, Sr GM\, NSGM-PMU\n\n\n12:20\n12:50\n0:30\n5G technologies for Smart Metering \, including NB-IoT/CATM and typical Smart Metering use cases\nMr Kiran Kuchi\, Governing Council Member\, TSDSI \n \n\n\n12:50\n13:00\n0:10\nQ&A\nOpen House\n\n\nLUNCH\n13:00\n14:00\n1:00\nLUNCH\n\n\nCloud Interoperability for Smart Grids\n14:00\n14:20\n0:20\nLeveraging Cloud for  Mission Critical and Enterprise wide applications\nMr M P Singhal\, Member CCICI and Former Advisor\, TEC\, DoT\n\n\n14:20\n14:40\n0:20\nSmart Grid use G Use Ccases with Cloud – Migration Path From Physical DCs to Cloud\nMr Anil Sharma \, SE\, DHBVN \n \n\n\n14:40\n15:20\n0:40\nOverview of Cloud – features/benefits/strategy for adoption/portability and interoperability etc\nMr Satish Jamadagni\, Vice Chairman TSDSI (Vice President\,  Reliance JIO) \n \n\n\n15:20\n15:30\n0:10\nQ&A\nOpen House \n \n\n\nTEA BREAK\n15:30\n16:00\n0:30\nTEA BREAK\n\n\nPanel Discussion\n16:00\n16:45\n0:45\nPanel Discussion on leveraging 5G and Cloud for Smart Grids in India\nModerator: Ms Pamela Kumar\, DG\, TSDSI \nPanelists: \nMr Vishal Kapoor\, Dir\, MoP \nMr A K Mishra\, Dir\, NSGM-PMU \nMs Palka Sahni\, IAS-ED (IPDS) \nMr M P Singhal; Member\, CCICI \nMr Sharad Arora\, MD\, Sensorise; \nMr Sanchit Taraiya\, Prog.I/c\, ESDS\n\n\nCONCLUSION\n16:45\n17:00\n0:15\nConcluding Remarks\nNSGM\n\n\n\n
