DESCRIPTION:TSDSI launched the Partner Webinar Series on Standardization@3GPP in association with the India EU Cooperation on ICT-Related Standardization\, Policy and Legislation (India EU PP).  The series intended to share an overview of 3GPP and its activities\, and bring insights from 3GPP experts on latest and futuristic technologies. \nThe second webinar in this series was held on 19 June 2020 on “Standardization@3GPP: Evolution of the 3GPP Core Network with 5G and the support of Verticals”. \nTopic Abstract: The presentation started with a brief overview of the Core Network and Terminals (CT) Technical Specification Group (TSG) responsibilities within 3GPP. It then focused on the major evolutions of the 3GPP Core Network induced by the introduction of the new 5G radio access technology (NR) and the support of the Verticals since the 3GPP Release 15. \nSpeaker: \n\nLionel Morand\, Chair of 3GPP Core Network and Terminals (CT) Technical Specification Group (TSG)\nSpeaker Bio: Since March 2019\, Lionel Morand is the Chair of 3GPP Core Network and Terminals (CT) Technical Specification Group (TSG)\, one of the three TSGs with Radio Access Network (RAN) and Service Aspects (SA) responsible of the management and the coordination of the technical work in 3GPP. Beforehand\, Lionel has been the TSG CT Working Group 4 (CT4) Chair since July 2016\, after serving as Vice-Chair from 2012 to 2016\, and\, as Orange’s lead representative for about 20 years\, he was an active member and a key contributor in the development of the IP-based Core Network.\n\nSession Moderator \n\nAjay Kumar Mittal\, Advisor – Networks\, Systems & Technologies\, TSDSI\n\nModerator Bio: Shri A. K. Mittal did his graduation in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 1976 from Indian Institute of Technology\, Roorkee. He also holds a Diploma in Management. The lab also plans to employ oneM2M standard and possibly multiple implementations from different vendors and open-sources. \nSpeakers:  \n\nSachin Chaudhari\, Assistant Professor\, IIIT Hyderabad\n\nSpeaker Bio: Sachin Chaudhari received his B.E.(Electronics) from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT)\, Nagpur\, India in 2002 and M.E.(Telecommunication) from Indian Institute of Science (IISc)\, Bangalore\, India in 2004. From August 2004 to May 2007\, he was with Esqube Communications\, Bangalore\, India\, as a senior wireless communication engineer. He joined the Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics at Aalto University (formerly TKK)\, Finland\, in 2007 to pursue his Ph.D. and received his D.Sc. (Tech) in 2012. During 2013-2014\, he was a post-doctoral researcher at Aalto University. Since December 2014\, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)\, Hyderabad\, India. His research interests are in the field of signal processing for wireless communication and particularly\, in the physical layer aspects of cognitive radios\, 5G\, and internet of things. \n\nRamesh Loghanathan\, Professor\, Co-Innovation at IIIT Hyderabad\n\nSpeaker Bio: After 25 years in the product R&D space\, on Dec 2015\, moved full-time into academics. DESCRIPTION:2nd TSDSI-TEPC Workshop on “Standardisation for Developing Countries”  \n(10 February 2020\, 17:30-20:30 hrs\, The Ashok\, New Delhi) \n Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) has been set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Communications\, Government of India for promotion of exports of Telecom Equipment and Services. It has played a key facilitating role in developing strong trade relationships between India and emerging economies\, including countries from Africa\, Sahara\, South East Asia\, South Asia and South America. \nDeveloping countries too\, like India\, are mostly dependent on imports for their needs of telecom equipment and services. While procurement of global standards-based equipment gives them some flexibility in choice of vendors\, the larger question is whether the global telecom standards cater to the operating conditions or use cases that might be specific to them. For this to happen\, it is important that the voice of developing countries be heard in the global standards making organisations like ITU\, 3GPP and oneM2M\, to name just a few. \nTelecommunications Standards Development Society\, India\, (TSDSI)\,  founded in January 2014 with full encouragement and support of Government of India and having a membership base representing all segments of telecom ecosystem in the country\, is very much interested in being the voice of India and the developing world in international telecom standards making. TSDSI has been a regular in the SG5 meetings of ITU-R and made contributions to IMT-2020 standards which should help cost effective roll out of 5G services in rural India and many other developing countries with similar conditions. TSDSI is also an organization partner (OP) of 3GPP and Partner type 1 of oneM2M. \nTSDSI wishes greater engagement with the developing countries for sharing of knowledge and experience for mutual benefit. TSDSI is also working with TEPC to learn from their experience and leverage their excellent network in telecom ecosystems of the developing world. \n3GPP has designated TSDSI to report progress on “Topics for 5G NR (New Radio) deployment in developing countries. It has been decided that TSDSI will conduct periodic workshops on “Standardisation for Developing Countries” in partnership with TEPC\, at regular intervals to exchange views on adoption of 5G and beyond technologies in the developing economies regions. \nThe first such workshop was held on 14 October 2019 in New Delhi\, where activities of Global standards forums\, TSDSI and Developing economies perspectives were discussed. Rural broadband technologies to cater to the unique requirements in developing countries was an area of common interest extensively discussed. DESCRIPTION:DoT TCOE India TSDSI COAI Workshop on IMT2020\, 7 February 2020 14:30-16:00 hrs\,  \n13th Floor\, DoT Conference Room\, Sanchar Bhawan\, New Delhi \nTSDSI RIT submission on IMT2020 has been accepted for evaluation as an IMT2020 Standard at the ITU WP-5D Meeting #33 in Geneva held during December 10-13\, 2019. This submission will deliver\, in addition to the ultra-fast\, low-latency mobile internet and next-generation IoT services in both cellular and mm-wave spectral bands common to all 5G candidate standards\, an additional technological enhancement that has the ability to provide broadband connectivity to rural users using ultra-long range cell sites. It will ensure 100% of India’s villages can be covered from towers located at panchayat villages where Bharatnet reaches\, whereas nearly a third of such neighbouring villages would be out of coverage otherwise. It exploits a new transmit waveform that increases cell range developed by research institutions in India and supported by some Indian companies. \nIndependent Evaluation Groups\, including TCOE India and 5GIF are in the process of evaluating the candidate IMT 2020 submissions. The upcoming WP 5D meeting #34 scheduled in Geneva on Feb 19- 26\, 2020\, will discuss the evaluation reports of the RITs. It is important that as country we have common evaluation reports. \nIn order to bring about a common view\, DoT\, TCOE India\, COAI and TSDSI organised a workshop on 20 January 2002 to share updates on the Evaluation activities and discuss plans for the remaining 4 steps of ITU process for defining the IMT2020 standard. A follow on workshop to deliberate further on these topics was organised on 7 February 2020 in Sanchar Bhawan\, New Delhi from 14:30 to 16:00. DESCRIPTION:TSDSI partnered with The International Wireless Industry Consortium (IWPC)\, and organised a workshop on “5G Solving the Capacity Crunch & Connecting the Unconnected” on 20-23 January 2020\, in Bengaluru. \nAs the industry transitions from 4G to 5G\, this workshop explored the landscape for connectivity in India and consider the options and practicality of moving to 5G. What does the Indian capacity crunch look like and what are the local coverage limitations? Assessing what role Massive MIMO will play\, assessing gains and if this is enough to warrant investment in this highly complex technology. Considering current challenges in providing rural connectivity\, how can we leverage technology evolution to provide self- sustaining solutions for rural connectivity? Assessing challenges and opportunities in providing rural connectivity with 5G technology. SUMMARY:DoT-TCOE India-TSDSI Workshop on “IMT2020 Status Updates” 20 Jan 2020 in New Delhi (20 January\, 2020: New Delhi)
DESCRIPTION:TSDSI RIT submission on IMT2020 has been accepted for evaluation as an IMT2020 Standard at the ITU WP-5D Meeting #33 in Geneva held during December 10-13\, 2019. This submission will deliver\, in addition to the ultra-fast\, low-latency mobile internet and next-generation IoT services in both cellular and mm-wave spectral bands common to all 5G candidate standards\, an additional  technological enhancement that has the ability to provide broadband connectivity to rural users using ultra-long range cell sites. It will ensure 100% of India’s villages can be covered from towers located at panchayat villages where Bharatnet reaches\, whereas nearly a third of such neighbouring villages would be out of coverage otherwise. It exploits a new transmit waveform that increases cell range developed by research institutions in India and supported by some Indian companies. \nIndependent Evaluation Groups\, including TCOE India and 5GIF are in the process of evaluating the candidate IMT 2020 submissions. The upcoming WP 5D meeting #34 scheduled in Geneva on Feb 19-26\, 2020\, will discuss the evaluation reports of the RITs. SUMMARY:Smart Cities: 5G Network Technologies\, its Applications\, and Standards (5-6 September\, 2019: Bengaluru)
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on “Smart Cities: 5G Network Technologies\, Its Applications\, and Standards” is being organized on 5-6 September 2019 in Bengaluru\, under the aegis of the US-India SCCP\, by USTDA in partnership with TSDSI\, TIA\, ANSI\, BIS and CII. \nTSDSI and TIA will bring experts from India and US to the workshop to deliberate upon topics related to 5G technology – roadmaps\, standards\, test beds and early trials\, deployment experiences etc. \nAbout the Conference: \n5G is at the forefront of the next generation of networks. New intelligent networks will greatly impact the development of smart cities and green buildings in the coming years. To meet these challenges and customer expectations\, we must prepare for a secure\, dynamic network to provide the next level of customer experience. \nThis Conference will bring experts in technology and standards together to discuss how standards can support technological innovations to be more efficient and secure. Standards are key to enable the high-performance wireless networks that will allow for the implementation of new services to improve business efficiency\, resource efficiency\, and quality of life. DESCRIPTION:TSDSI is supporting its partner\, IEEE\, in organising the IEEE SmartTech 2019 Conference in Bangalore on 2-3 August 2019. \nAbout the Conference: \nElectromobility is envisioned as a key component of the future mobility ecosystem. Urban roads are\, therefore\, set to see more and more electric vehicles\, ranging from scooters and cars to transporters and trucks. However\, this transformation in the mobility space goes far beyond just using vehicles with an electric engine. It also holds the opportunity of developing new kinds of orchestrated solutions through digital reimagination of the end-to-end value chain as part of a connected\, shared\, and collaborative mobility ecosystem. \nThe 6th edition of IEEE SmartTech will set the stage to understand technologies and challenges for sustainable city-scale mobility in general\, and electromobility in specific; and how they will disrupt and impact our way of working and living.
