SUMMARY:oneM2M International Conference: “The Journey to Massive IoT through Interoperable and Open Standards” (December 01-02\, 2022: Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:oneM2M organised an international conference on “The Journey to Massive IoT through Interoperable and Open Standards” on 1-2 December 2022 12.30-14.30 IST in TTA Premises in South Korea and Online over GoToWebinar. \nTo achieve quick results\, many IoT deployments deploy single-purpose solutions or rely on proprietary platforms. However\, as new requirements and operational goals arise these can be difficult to evolve. Users may find themselves locked into single technology or single-vendor environments. This can affect the scope for innovation and the ability to deploy cross-silo systems. \nThis conference aimed to illustrate the technical and innovation potential of open-standard\, scalable and interoperable IoT systems. Presenters described IoT systems based on the oneM2M standard. They shared developer and deployment experiences while illustrating the benefits of global standardization. \nIn addition to technical specifications\, multi-year standardization roadmaps are a proven way to address new requirements. Interoperability testing and certification are also important for building trust in IoT systems. These issues were discussed in terms of oneM2M’s standardization framework as well as the formal roles of regional standardization bodies and the ITU. \nSchedule: 1-2 December 2022 12.30-14.30 IST \nVenue: Hybrid/TTA Premises\, Pangyo\, S. SUMMARY:WEBINAR ON ‘5G Use Cases in Manufacturing and Logistics Sector’ (May 25\, 2022: Online)
DESCRIPTION:Telecommunication Standards Development Society India (TSDSI) in collaboration with National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research\, Innovation and Training (NTIPRIT) organized a webinar on ‘5G Use Cases in Manufacturing and Logistics Sectors’\, as part of webinar series on the theme ‘5G Use cases in sectors of economy’\, on 25th May 2022 from 11:00 to 13:30 IST. \nAbout the Webinar: \nManufacturing is undergoing a major generational shift to Industry 4.0 – the digitization and advancement of manufacturing processes and the ecosystem around them to create more flexible\, efficient and sustainable production lines. \n5G IoT is a key enabler for this shift\, offering manufacturing companies and their supply chain partners improved visibility over their whole ecosystem and setting the foundation for technologies such as AI and machine vision to create new use-cases and improved commercial outcomes. \n5G IoT can extend Industry 4.0 across the supply chain. Manufacturers recognize the benefits that can be realized by extending the reach of the network beyond the factory floor. Indeed\, supply chain management is a key area where significant improvements in operational efficiency can be made. This is particularly the case for verticals that command high-margin products\, for which greater monitoring and visibility of assets in-transit is of paramount importance. Here\, there is an opportunity for a single unified 5G solution which provides end-to end connectivity for mobile assets. \nUtilizing elements of both private and public 5G networks would allow manufacturers to link together segregated systems both inside the factory and across the wider value chain\, including supply chain\, distribution\, warehousing and customer service. \nIn this regard\, the webinar brought together Government officials\, experts from Industry and Academia to showcase and discuss various aspects and perspectives of the 5G use cases in Manufacturing and Logistics Sector. \nSchedule: 25 May 2022\, 11:00 to 13:30 IST \nVenue: Online (on Microsoft Teams) \nRecordings: \n\nProgram Schedule: \n\n\n\nTIME (IST)\nTOPIC\nSPEAKER\n\n\nInaugural Session\n\n\n11:00-11:20\nWelcome address\nSh U. SUMMARY:Seminar on "Smart Communication Solutions for Smart Utilities and Smart Cities" @ India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) 2022 (March 3\, 2022: Online)
DESCRIPTION:Telecommunications Standards Development Society\, India (TSDSI) organized a seminar on “Smart Communication Solutions for Smart Utilities and Smart Cities” in partnership with India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) and Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) on 3rd March 2022 from 17:30 to 20:30 Hrs (IST) in the India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) 2022 Conference scheduled from 2-4 March 2022. This was the 2nd edition of the seminar in this annual conference\, that attracted attention and participation of the whose-who amongst top-notch thinkers and utility leaders from around the globe. Technology Companies\, Regulators\, Policy Makers\, Government Officials and Senior Officials from Electric\, Water and Gas Utilities from 50+ countries participated every year in the past editions of ISUW. \nAbout the Seminar: \nIndia was a pioneer in adopting IPv6 way back in 2015. The M2M Roadmap issued by Department of Telecom (DoT) made IPv6 mandatory for all equipment\, networks and contents in India from July 2015. Since 2015\, ISGF along with other stakeholders have been advocating for 10-12 MHz of licence-free wireless spectrum for M2M Communications in India. On the recommendations of DoT\, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) approved allocation of 7 MHz of spectrum for M2M communications in 2018. The Wireless Planning Committee (WPC) allotted 1 MHz additional spectrum in 2021; and DoT has now agreed in-principle to release another 6 MHz of spectrum. \nBesides allocation of additional RF Spectrum\, DoT is about to introduce 5G communications in the country. The new communication infrastructure\, coupled with IoT technologies\, is an essential component for making utilities and cities “smart”. 5G focus on 3 pillars of new capability – Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC)\, enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC). The new 5G capabilities are crucial for realizing the full benefits for smart utilities and smart cities. 5Gi developed by Telecommunications Standards Development Society\, India (TSDSI)\, India’s Telecom SDO has been adopted by Government of India. Further\, the Government of India has adopted TSDSI’s transposed oneM2M standards as national standards for IoT/M2M technologies. BIS has issued communication standards for Smart City Applications vide IS:18010 standard series. \nThese milestones are significant for implementation of standards-based solutions for various use cases and industry segments. This session looked at the enablement for smart utilities and smart cities from additional RF Spectrum\, 5G technologies and new standards. \nThe seminar discussed the following: \n\nAdditional Spectrum Band for M2M Communications\n5G Pilots for Smart Utilities and Smart Cities Use Cases\noneM2M for Smart Utilities and Smart Cities\nBIS Standards for IoT Technologies for Smart Cities\nStandardization activities for Smart Grids @ TEC\, TSDSI and 3GPP\nWireless on Wire (WoW) initiatives for providing Broadband Internet in Underserved Communities/ Regions through Power Line Communications (PLC) Technologies\n\nSchedule: 3 March 2022\, 17:30 – 20:30 IST \nVenue: Online \nRecording: \n\nAgenda: \n\n\n\nTIME (IST)\nSESSION\nSPEAKERS\n\n\n1730-1800\nOpening Session \n\n\n\nWelcome Address \n\n\nReji Kumar Pillai\, President – India Smart Grid Forum (a PPP initiative of Government of India) \nChairman – Global Smart Energy Federation\n\n\nSpecial Address\n\nSatish Jamadagani\, Vice Chairman\, TSDSI and Vice President & Head of Standards\, Technology Development\, Reliance Jio \n\n\n\nInaugural Address\nKishore Babu\, DDG\, DoT\n\n\n1800-1930\n\nSESSION 1: \nNew Communication Technology Pilots for Smart Utilities and Smart Cities Use Cases – 5G\, NB-IoT\, Wireless over Wire (WoW) \n\nChair & Moderator: Dindayal Tosniwal \, DDG-NT\, DoT\n\n\n1. In the end\, we conclude the lecture with a discussion on open research topics. \n\n\n\nNetworking Break (12:45 to 14:00)\n\n\nExpert Talks #4 \nVideo recording of the demos Demo#1 \nLens design (by Utkarsh)\n  \n14:00 to 16:00\n\nWith Staff and Research Scholars working under the guidance of Prof Abhishek Dixit\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Electrical Engineering\, IIT Delhi \n\n\n\n14:00\n14:20\n\nThis demo considers the use of rotationally symmetric aspheric GRIN lenses for arbitrary shaped optical wireless communication channels. The receiver lens design is discussed\, and design examples for hexapolar and conical ray release are presented. The optical design procedure includes non-sequential ray tracing\, the mapping method\, and the edge-ray principle for focusing non-paraxial rays. Optical ray-tracing simulations with realistic models are used for model validation in COMSOL Multiphysics®. \n\n\n\nDemo#2 \nVLC Tx and Rx: (by Vaibhav)\n14:20\n14:40\n\nDemonstration of Li-Fi downlink by transferring a sine signal between LED (Tx) and photodetector (Rx). This acts as a frontend of the transmitter and receiver of the Li-Fi link. \n\n\n\nDemo#3 \nVLC design in FPGA   \n(by Ankit and Krishnadeep)\n14:40\n15:00\n\nIn this demo\, we demonstrate pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) schemes used for the Li-Fi network over FPGA. The audio signal or a Psuedo Random Binary Sequence (PRBS) is used to input this system. The ZYNQ Ultrascale+ Xillinx FPGA boards have been used with ADC/DAC card (Abacco FMC150) to implement this scheme. \n\n\n\nDemo#4 \nVLC in USRP (by Dr Arun)\n15:00\n15:20\n\nThis demo aims to design a physical layer of a simplex Li-Fi link that achieves a high data rate. The physical layer integrates the host computer\, transmitter\, and receiver. The transmitter and receiver are designed using Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) using software-defined radio concepts. Digital modulation techniques like BPSK\, QPSK\, QAM 16 have been developed and tested. We demonstrate the QPSK modulation scheme through USRP\, which achieves up to 5 Mbps data rate. \n\n\n\nDemo#5 \nVLC uplink (by Mayank)\n  \n15:20\n  \n15:40\n\nDemonstration of Li-Fi uplink by enabling the communication link between the two FPGA boards (ZCU102 ultrascale+) using PCIe uplink modules. The data transmission in the form of video will be shown between these boards by exposing the uplink module interface to the FPGA Processor System. \n\n\n\nDemo#6 \nMAC protocol in FPGA   \n(by Rakesh and Shareefa)\n  \n15:40\n  \n16:00\n\nDemonstration of data communication between Processor Section (PS) to Programmable Logic (PL) in FPGA. This is done as a part of the MAC protocol of the Li-Fi link. \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:“Standards Driven Research” Online Workshop at the NCC2021 (July 29\, 2021: Online)
DESCRIPTION:Telecommunications Standards Development Society\, India (TSDSI) has been promoting the concept of “Standards Driven Research” in order to synergise the research in our technology institutes with creation of an IP pool that can be translated to Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). Achieving prominence in Global Standards Development is a key indicator of emergence of India from a “late consumer of mature technology” to becoming an “globally competitive innovator in emerging technologies”. TSDSI is actively working to establish collaborations between the research community across academia and industry/start-ups. \nTSDSI organized a workshop under the aegis of NCC 2021 to encourage researchers from Academic Institutes to develop and contribute their research ideas into formal standards development activities at National and Global levels. The workshop featured keynotes\, expert talks\, and panel discussion on examples of standards driven research initiatives and emerging opportunities. \nAbout NCC2021: The National Conference on Communications (NCC) is arguably the most important national conference today in the area of communications\, signal processing and networks. The NCC is India’s premier annual conference organized by the Joint Telematics Group (JTG) consisting of IITs and IISc. The JTG is a coordinating body whose main role is to facilitate the conduct of the annual conference and closer interaction of academia\, industry\, and government in the broad area of communications. \nIn a span of little more than two decades\, the conference has acquired substantial recognition and is now widely known in many countries overseas. NCC 2021\, the 27th edition of NCC\, will be held online for the first time\, is being jointly organized by IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee. \nPlease visit here for details of the conference and registration. \nDetails of the “Standards Driven Research Workshop” at NCC 2021 are as follows: \nSchedule: 29 July 2021 09:00 to 12:30 IST \nWorkshop Mentors: Prof Uday Desai\, Prof K V S Hari \nWorkshop Co-Chairs: Prof Arzad Kherani – IIT Bhilai\, Prof Radha Krishna Ganti – IIT Madras \n Program Agenda:\n \n\n\n\nStart Time (IST)\nEnd Time (IST)\nSESSION\nTOPIC\nSPEAKERS\nRecordings\n\n\n0900\n0905\nOpening Session\nWelcome Remarks\nProf Uday B Desai\, Research & Academia Strategy Consultant TSDSI\nhttps://youtu.be/fniZQv14vyI\n\n\n0905\n0935\nKEYNOTE\nKEYNOTE: “The 5Gi Story – from Academic Research to a Global Standard”\nProf Abhay Karandikar\, Director\, IIT Kanpur\nhttps://youtu.be/gUYEvJgrWX8\n\n\n0935\n1015\nCASE STUDIES\nAcademia: Ecosystem in India\nDr Sundaram Vanka\, IIT Hyderabad\nhttps://youtu.be/yI8yl44JouI\n\n\nIndustry: Ecosystem in India\nMr Sharad Arora\, Sensorise\nhttps://youtu.be/_bFQ2Msyzew\n\n\n1015\n1030\nPatent Perspective\nHow to Patent before publishing your paper/standardization\nMr Pankaj Bhagat\, Chief Manager- IPM Cell\, IIT Madras\nhttps://youtu.be/csRIyH5XWng\n\n\n1030\n1130\nStandardization Opportunities for 6G\nResearch Problems in relation to 6G: Core Network\nProf Mythili Vutukuru\, IIT Bombay\nhttps://youtu.be/i8R4U9kdTXo\n\n\nResearch Problems in relation to 6G: Physical Layer\nDr Abhinav Kumar\, IIT Hyderabad\nhttps://youtu.be/D_M3JYUIlAU\n\n\nDr Amit Kumar Dutta\, IIT Kharagpur\nhttps://youtu.be/JzFwf3EchEw\n\n\n1130\n1215\n“Need for active participation by Indian Research Community in formal Standardisation activities”\nRemarks by Prof K V S Hari\nhttps://youtu.be/mYrB4JmzNcE\n\n\nPanel Discussion\nPanel Discussion – “How to promote Standards driven research: what is the incentive?”\nModerator:\nhttps://youtu.be/-jxiaDfsaTg\n\n\nProf Ajit Chaturvedi\, Director\, IIT Roorkee\n\n\nPanelists:\n\n\nMr Kishore Babu\, DDG-SRI\, DoT\n\n\nProf Bhaskar Ramamurthi\, Director IIT Madras\n\n\nProf Huzur Saran\, IIT Delhi\n\n\nProf Kiran Kuchi\, IIT Hyderabad\n\n\nProf Neelesh Mehta\, IISc Bangalore\n\n\n1215\n1230\nClosing Remarks and Way Forward\nClosing Remarks and Way Forward\nMs. Pamela Kumar\, DG-TSDSI\nhttps://youtu.be/iP8Kc7ZJRQg
