TSDSI seeks qualified candidates for position of Director-General

TSDSI an autonomous, membership based, Indian Standards Development Organization (SDO) for Telecom/ICT products and services in India, is looking for a full time Director General (DG) at Delhi, to lead its activities.

Job Profile:

The Director-General (DG) is the legal representative of TSDSI and holds Chief Executive authority.

DG powers and functions are described in Section 10.3 of the TSDSI Rules and Regulations (R&R). The Director-General is an ex-officio non-voting member of the TSDSI General Body and the TSDSI Governing Council.

TSDSI requires a Director-General with the skills, competencies, charisma, drive, and management abilities to move TSDSI forward in its standardization path, and to establish TSDSI as a world-class SDO.

The successful candidate will take over the day-to-day operations of the society’s Secretariat, with the assistance of the Governing Council (GC). He or she will also contribute to establishing policies and procedures, in accordance with the well-established working and standard operating procedures, relating to the support services the TSDSI Secretariat provides to the membership within the overall standardization process.

The Director-General is expected to provide technical guidance to the study group chairpersons in standardization matters and help them evolve consensus on study and work items. The DG is expected to serve as the primary interface of TSDSI in the international standards bodies such as 3GPP, ITU, GSC, and with the Government including DoT and MeitY.

TSDSI’s Director-General must be an excellent manager and should possess very good communication, diplomatic and negotiation skills, and be consensus-driven. This will require being both firm and tactically flexible, as well as being transparent and reliable, as s/he has to deal with a multiplicity of organizations of different types in a fast-changing environment (e.g., Standards Developing Organizations at national, regional, and international levels; industrial entities; political institutions; users).

The candidate should have deep ICT Industry and Standards professional experience.  In particular, s/he should understand the impact of IT and Standards on this converged ICT sector and be prepared to effectively support a balanced TSDSI approach as required by the market, the industry, and its institutions. S/he also understand the evolving needs of both mobile and fixed communications, including the converging trends; and cater into the standardization needs of the fixed and mobile TSDSI member communities. Finally, s/he should adequately reflect the existing and quickly widening cultural and geographical diversity of the universe of stakeholders in the ICT standardization field.

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

Advanced university degree in technical, legal, or business management matters is required. 15-20 years of progressive management responsibility in an international context with a technical orientation and adequate exposure to the standardization process. Experience in a commercial organization and/or TSDSI Member organization would be welcome. Fluency in English and working knowledge of one or more Indian languages, preferably Hindi would be an advantage. Good internal and external negotiating and communications skills required. Knowledge and senior level experience in service-based business, production and human resource management. Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Ability to present administrative and specialist documents in a manner that can captivate the audience.

The position is based out of Delhi. Remuneration and benefits will be fixed in accordance with relevant experience and qualifications.
